The Cornish Language Board
The Cornish Language Board was founded in 1967 by a joint resolution of the Gorsedd of Cornwall and The Federation of Old Cornwall Societies, to continue the work of promoting the Cornish Language which had previously been the responsibility of those two bodies.
Since 1982, the majority of the Board's members (15) are elected every three years, the electorate being the membership of Kowethas an Yeth Kernewek (The Cornish Language Fellowship), membership of which is open to anyone interested in learning or promoting the Cornish Language. The remaining Board members are appointed by The Gorsedd (2), The F.O.C.S. (2), Kernewek Dre Lyther (1), and Cornwall 'County' Council (1).

All meetings and records of the Board are in Cornish.
The Board uses and promotes the Common Cornish (Kernewek Kemmyn) orthography,
although limited support is still provided for the older Unified Cornish (Kernewek Unyes) standard.

Correspondence Course
Created by Ray Edwards in 1983, the Cornish Correspondence Course, Kernewek dre Lyther, is designed primarily to help people who are unable to attend Cornish classes. There are three KDL courses which follow the Language Board's syllabus. The lessons in the 1st and 2nd/3rd grade courses are self-contained; consisting of a reading passage, questions and answers, grammar exercises and at times a composition. Every fifth lesson is a revision lesson. Cassettes are available. These courses are now available online. The 4th grade course requires students to work through past 4th grade language and history papers, and to study set texts. Students' work is sent to a KDL teacher to be marked and returned. There are KDL teachers in the UK, Australia, France, America and the Czech Republic. To date more than 300 people have enrolled with KDL, and over 30 of these have passed the highest grade and become Bards of the Cornish Gorsedd.

Publications
The Board's publishing activities concentrate on technical and academic works, critical and historical literary works, grammars, dictionaries and learning courses. More general books and readers are the province of
Kowethas an Yeth Kernewek
(The Cornish Language Fellowship). The year 2004 was the centenary of the publication of Henry Jenner's Handbook of the Cornish Language, generally held be mark the beginning of the Cornish Language revival. By that date, the Board had almost all the historical Cornish texts in print in an inexpensive format, making them readily available for the first time to the Cornish people. They are published in the original manuscript spelling, a transcription into Kernewek Kemmyn and an English translation. A provisional edition of the recently discovered manuscript of
Bywnans Ke
(The Life of St. Kea) completes the Board's series of Middle Cornish texts.

which aims eventually to produce a complete Cornish translation of the
